On Thomas Schülke

Thomas Schülke is Managing Director of Schülke Cinema Consult GmbH, a company which he founded with his wife in 2015.

Thomas has more than 28 years of experience in the cinema exhibition and distribution industry. With his strategic forward thinking mentality he is constantly interested in new business development and in questioning and improving existing processes. He is convinced that Event Cinema content will play a very important role in the cinema offer of the future.

More than 19 years Thomas was Marketing Director (later Commercial Director) for Germany and Austria of one of the leading multiplex exhibitor chains (today part of Europe´s largest exhibitor group). He was also the head of filmbuying there for more than 15 years and acted as company spokesman.

He was responsible for the marketing campaigns of 24 multiplex cinema openings and takeovers. Thomas contributed essentially to the pioneer role of the company on many areas e.g. online and mobile ticketing, customer relationship management, loyalty scheme, Social Media, premium screen concepts, B2B- and gift voucher business.

As a pioneer of Event Cinema in Germany he created the first cinema screenings of the FIFA World Cup back in 1994. First screenings of pop and rock concerts followed since 1997. On the first digital projector ever installed in Germany he showed a live concert of „Bon Jovi“ in 2002. When 3D live content was available in 2010 he experimented again with FIFA World Cup screenings and local pop band „Die Fantastischen Vier“. „Carmen“ was shown as first opera in 3D in 2011. The canonization of two popes live from Rome in 2014 and the first ever screening of online game „League of Legends“ in 2015 showed the full diversity of Event Cinema business which Thomas now tries to expand even further with his own company.

In January 2017 he was nominated for the Event Cinema Association award 2015/16 in the category "Outstanding Contribution to Event Cinema".

Thomas is a graduate economist of the University of Bremen and an enthusiastic cinema fan.
